Studying Korean Again

I’ve been studying Korean again for the last month. I’m really getting a lot deeper in the grammar than I have before. It’s actually quite enjoyable. I think i’m going to need to do a lot of listening though. Luckily I’ve got some good SRS tools I can apply here. Also i’ve got my good friend 쥰 씨 who is actually learning english. We bounce questions off each-other about phrases and vocabulary :) .

I’ve started on Rosetta Stone with the Full Year Curriculum course.  I think it’s really helping me get a grasp on the language.  I think once I finish all 3 levels i’ll be able to more comfortably study grammar by reading native Korean books.  Also lots of listening emersion!  Hopefully I can get to a certain point where I can do my thinking in Korean about the world around me as practice.

I’ve downloaded a few Anki decks that have tons of Korean words and sentences for study.  I also have downloaded 260 episodes of a little 10 minute show from http://www.arirang.co.kr.  They’ve been pretty  helpful so far.  I’ve seen some good stuff on this blog: http://parksguide.blogspot.com/.

I’m really jealous of the peeps over at languagecast.net they really seem to have some fun.  선현우 씨 runs the show over there.  Good stuff!

Reviewing, Researching Mnemonics

Still doing my daily reviews.  My accuracy is starting to get stronger and stronger :)

kanji_review_0130

As for mnemonics, i’m preparing to learn all of the Onyomi readings by heart for the kanji i’ve learned.  I’ll be using a variation of The Movie Method.   It really does take a lot of forethought to work up to something like this.  Some groups of readings have up to 66 kanji and there are about 287 readings i’ll be learning.

Remembering the Kanji 1: Completed!

After almost 4 months today I finally completed RtK1.  Of course i’ll still be doing reviews… but without adding big amounts of cards all the time the number of kanji that I’ll be reviewing every day should go down over time…. i think.  Anyway I’m really excited about starting up some sentence mining!

…And Splash Jackson Is Born

boy

Oops I meant to say Ivan Victor T. is born.  My friends Stephen and Cyrstal from Colorado just had a baby boy!!!  He was born at 8lbs. 2oz.  He’sssss got a big’heaaaad!  I think it’s really cool that his name is Ivan and his sister’s name is Navi.  How cool is that?  I can’t wait to see pictures of the little bundle of silliness.

Actually Navi has a blog!!!  (actually run by stephen)

!!CONGRATULATIONS STEPHEN AND CRYSTAL!!

Lang-8 & 1700 kanji

Just signed up for Lang-8 yesterday. Gearing up for when I start on sentences.  Also i’ve been keeping an eye out on material I can glean from. And my copy of Mother1+2 arrived today!! :)  It doesn’t use kanji… but I figure it will still build and reinforce some basic vocab.

I added 60 kanji over the weekend!! I’m starting to get really excited about finishing up with 2042 kanji in RtK1.  By my estimates I should be done by the first week of January.  Can’t wait!
